FAQ
Questions, answered plainly
Everything people actually ask us, roughly in the order they ask it. Where the honest answer is that it depends, that is what it says.
What makes a move a "quality" move rather than just a cheap one?
Method, mostly. Whether somebody surveyed the property before quoting. Whether furniture is wrapped in the room or at the tailgate. Whether the permit and the lift were booked in advance or discovered on the day. Whether the crew who loaded it is the crew who unloads it. None of that is glamorous and all of it is the difference between a calm day and a bad one.
Do you cover all of London?
Every borough, north, south, east, west and central, plus moves that start in London and finish elsewhere in the UK or in Europe. We work at London-wide level; for street-level knowledge of a single district, our coverage page points you at the network site that specialises there.
How do you quote?
A survey first, then a written quote. Video for most moves, in person where the access or the volume earns it. The survey produces a room-by-room inventory and the inventory produces the figure, along with a plain statement of what is included and what is not.
Why is there no instant price calculator on this site?
Because a number generated from two postcodes and a room count is a guess, and guesses get revised once somebody finally sees the stairs. Looking first takes slightly longer and produces a figure that stays where it was put.
Will the price change on the day?
Not if the job matches the survey. If something genuinely changes — extra volume, an access restriction nobody disclosed — we tell you before we proceed rather than adding it to an invoice afterwards.
Do you handle the Congestion Charge and ULEZ?
Yes. Charges applicable to our vehicles on your move are our responsibility and are accounted for in the quote rather than appearing later as an extra line.
What about parking permits and bay suspensions?
Most London boroughs require a dispensation or a suspended bay for a removals vehicle on a controlled street. We apply for it as part of the planning, and we ask for the details early because boroughs differ and some need real notice.
My building has a service lift and a booking system. Can you work with that?
That is the normal case in new-build and mansion-block London. We speak to the managing agent or concierge, book the lift and the loading bay for a window, and plan the load order around that window rather than hoping to be let in.
What if the lift is too small for the sofa?
Then we know before the day rather than on it. Lift dimensions and stairwell widths are part of the survey precisely because a sofa that came up a Victorian staircase does not automatically go down a converted one. Where nothing fits, dismantling or a different route gets planned in advance.
Do you pack, or do I?
Either. Full pack, part pack — typically kitchen, glass and artwork — or materials delivered in advance so you can work through it at your own pace. Anything we pack is covered on the same terms as anything we carry.
What does white-glove handling actually mean here?
Individual casing for artwork, mirrors and glass; hand-dismantling of cabinetry and bed frames rather than forcing joints; floor and doorframe protection at both ends; and an inventory detailed enough to settle any question about condition afterwards. It is a level of care, not a brand name.
Can you move a piano?
Uprights, routinely, with the right crew and equipment. For grands and for genuinely specialist instruments we will tell you plainly whether we are the right firm — elsewhere in our network heavyremovals.uk carries that specialism, and pointing you there is better than learning on your instrument.
Do you offer storage?
Containerised storage between moves — we pack it, inventory it, seal the container and deliver it out when your date is firm. It is not a self-storage unit you rent and load yourself, and we do not pretend to be a storage facility.
How long can things stay in storage?
As long as you need. Charges run per storage period and are set out in your quote; the practical limit is your plans, not ours. Tell us roughly how long and whether you will need access, because it changes how the container is packed.
Do you do house clearance or take rubbish away?
No. Clearance and waste carriage are a different trade under a different licence, and we would rather say so than take the work and improvise. We will take away our own packing materials, which is a different thing.
Do you disconnect appliances?
Gas, plumbed and hard-wired appliances need a qualified engineer. We will work around one happily and plan the day so their visit fits, but we will not do it ourselves.
Do you move out of London as well as around it?
Regularly. London to the rest of the UK is a large part of what we do, loaded for the distance rather than for the doorstep, and unloaded by the same crew at the other end.
What about moving abroad?
We run road moves from London to France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. The customs declaration is built from the survey inventory and lodged before the vehicle travels. Those four are what we run regularly and whose paperwork we know; we would rather be straight about the limits than list twenty countries.
How long will a European move take?
It depends on the route, on whether the load is dedicated or shared, and on how clearance runs at the far end. Your written quote sets out an expected window for your move rather than a figure chosen to sound reassuring.
Is my furniture covered?
Cover is in place and its terms are set out in your quotation — what is covered, what the limits are and what is excluded. Read it before you book rather than after something happens, and ask us about anything of unusual value so it is properly accounted for.
When should I book?
As early as you sensibly can, particularly for a Friday or a month-end. Permits and lift bookings both need notice, and the best crews get committed first. That said, we take short-notice work and will tell you honestly what is possible.
Why are there no reviews or star ratings on this site?
Because we have not collected them yet, and a rating we could not substantiate would undercut the one thing this site is actually claiming. When there are real reviews they will appear with real names against them. Judge us on the survey and the written quote — both of which you see before committing to anything.
Still not sure?
Ask us directly. If we do not know the answer we will say so rather than inventing one.
