Man and van
Man and van across London
Same crews, same blankets, smaller scale. The useful question is not whether we do it — it is whether a man and van is actually the right answer for what you are moving.
Is this a man-and-van job?
Booking the wrong size of job is the commonest way a cheap move becomes an expensive one. Here is where the line usually falls.
Yes, comfortably
- A studio or a one-bedroom flat, especially a part-furnished one
- One room out of a shared house, with the rest of the household staying put
- A single heavy or awkward item — a sofa, a wardrobe, an upright piano
- A student move at the start or end of term
- Clearing a property into storage, or bringing part of it back out again
- Collecting furniture you have bought and delivering it properly rather than on a roof rack
Probably not, and here is why
- A two-bedroom flat with a full kitchen. It looks like a van job and turns into two or three trips across London, which costs more than the right vehicle would have.
- Anything needing a lift booking and a loading-bay window. The building will want a proper crew and proper paperwork.
- A move where fragile items need packing as well as carrying — that is a packing job with a van attached, and it should be quoted as one.
- Long distance. A single van and one driver up the motorway is a false economy against a properly loaded vehicle.
If you describe the job and it is really a flat removal or a house move, we will tell you that before quoting rather than taking the booking and discovering it on the doorstep.
Man and van — common questions
How is it priced?
By the job, from what you tell us and what we see. Not by a running clock you have to watch while someone carries boxes slowly. If we have misjudged the volume we will say so before loading, not afterwards.
Is the handling the same as on a full move?
Yes. Blankets in the room, corner protection, floors covered. A smaller job is not a licence to be rough with it, and this is the service where most firms quietly drop the standard.
One or two people?
Depends on the load, the floor and whether there is a lift. Stairs and heavy items want two. We will tell you which the job needs rather than sending one and hoping.
Can you help with packing?
We will bring materials and give you a hand with the awkward things. A genuine full pack is a different service and should be priced as one.
Do you cover the whole of London?
Every borough, north to south. Parking is the practical constraint, not distance — a controlled street still needs a dispensation whatever size the vehicle is.
Will you take away the things I do not want?
No. Clearance and waste carriage need a different licence and it is not a trade we are in.
Something small to move?
Tell us what it is, which floor it is on and where it is going. We will come straight back.
